Happiness is a virtue

"I only know that for the most part I have followed instinct rather than intelligence, and this has resulted in a modicum of happiness", writes Ruskin Bond in an attempt to elucidate happiness. He further explicates by adding, "life hasn't been a bed of roses, and yet, quite often, I've had roses out of season". This is a beautiful way of expressing the emotion of happiness. To be happy can mean different things for different individuals, what gives one happiness could also be a reason for despair for the other. It is something intangible and occupies various horizons for every individual. It is not something we can sought, it is something which we have within us. It can be felt when we are content, when we are happy wherever we are, whatever we are doing, when there is no urgency to constantly search for something else. Some people while trying to look for happiness - tend to neglect what could cause happiness in their lives. However, some people find ple...

The Proposal

Nancy was a cheerful, extrovert girl and ready to march head along and invite trouble without actually making much efforts. With her newly found independence, she found a new person in herself. She was happy juggling her career and higher education along with life and people in a new country. Away from home, she built a world all of her own accord. She was praised at work, was doing well, had a lot of friends and a decent social life.  "Hello, are you Nancy? I was asked to pass this document to you. Also, it would be wonderful if you could check whether all is in place", spoke a man from the HR department of her office. Nancy recognised the man from the metro she saw everyday while commuting to the office but she was not aware that they worked under the same roof. Nancy was so hooked to her headphone until her arrival to office that she was not concerned about anything except herself. "Hey, do you come to the office on the metro, I think I have seen you a couple of times...

Belief

Some days in your life you just lose faith in everything. You just want to sit alone and do your work and that's it. You want to shut yourself from everything that is close to you, and not because they have wronged you or said something bad to you, but just because you need time to replenish yourself. Similar to the batteries of a cellphone, our inner sould needs recharge too. It also needs to shut all the functions, and go on silent mode and rest for some time to be able to work again with conviction. There are endless troubles of the world. In all the hustle and bustle, i personally feel that though I have not been able to achieve what I deserve, but I have always got a lot of love from everyone. And this love I return to people around me. A friend just messaged me about faith, but the friend did not understand that I have lost all faith long back. These days I just do not have faith on anyone except God. God, I do have faith in him, as he is not visible, not present. I have lost...

1 / 2 THROUGH THE LENS OF EXCELLENCE / SHUTTER STORIES 1. What initially sparked your interest in sports photography? Ø I grew up as a big sports fan in Brooklyn, NY. I played a lot of sports with my friends– baseball, football, street hockey, basketball in my driveway and schoolyard. My dad gave  me a camera for my 14th birthday and I quickly discovered my love for photography. As I  progressed through high school and college I realized it may be possible to marry my two  passions into a career in sports photography. I was right! 2. Can you share some highlights from your sports photography portfolio and discuss the  stories behind a few of your favorite shots? Ø The first major highlight of my career was getting published in  Sports Illustrated  magazine at the beginning of my career in the early 1980’s. It was a couple of ice hockey photos of a LA Kings player named Bernie Nicholls. My second highlight and “big break” came when I was hired by the NBA to ...
